Micro-casting with Glass using the Freeze & Fuse Method
Afternoon Workshop

1.30 - 4pm, Sunday, 4th May 2025

£55 per person (includes tuition, use of tools, materials, and tea/coffee/snacks)

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to make 3D pieces of glass using the Freeze and Fuse method, which uses glass powder and rubber moulds to capture intricate details. Rachel will guide you to make a handful of colourful cast glass pieces from the myriad of moulds available, whilst learning the technical considerations of this technique. She’ll also cover what you could do with these pieces, from basic finishing into jewellery or as greeting card toppers, adding to larger fused glass projects or embedding into mosaic projects, and more.

Introduction to Stained Glass Painting
Morning Workshop

10am – 12.30pm, Sunday, 4th May 2025

£55 per person (includes tuition, use of tools, materials, and tea/coffee/snacks)

This workshop will introduce you to working with kiln-fired enamels, both on flat and three-dimensional glass surfaces to showcase its ease at applying permanent colour into a piece. Rachel will cover hand-painting with various brushes, screen-printing with different imagery, as well as other mark making. You will have the opportunity to make a few different finished pieces, or if you prefer, a selection of samples. Rachel will also cover how enamels can be used in conjunction with other kiln-forming techniques, how they are fired and any other technical troubleshooting that is of interest, including how to use them in different projects.

Screen-Printing & Glass
1 Day Class

Weekends only, subject to availability

£150

Aimed at those who already have access to kilns and want to learn how to use screen-printing to get their own imagery onto glass.
We will introduce kiln-fired enamels, printing with powders onto compatible glass as well as decals and transfer making.

During the day we cover the entire process from coating a screen with photo sensitive emulsion, printing with it onto glass to stripping it ready for re-coating. The emulsion used uses a halogen lamp rather than a UV unit so is easy and economical to do.

Full details of equipment and materials needed to set up in your own space will be provided, along with suppliers.

You will produce sample glass pieces with your own imagery and in a choice of coloured glass enamels. These will be fired and returned after the class. You are also welcome to bring your own pre-fused flat glass pieces to experiment with. All materials and equipment will be provided for student use during the class.

A one day class typically lasts from 10:30 till 17:00 with a break for lunch but shorter sessions can be arranged as appropriate.

This class is taught on a One on One basis, due to studio size, giving you the opportunity to focus on this technique and it's many possibilities.
